Race Date 11.5.17 - Malibu: East Meets West
Malibu half marathon followed by a weekend retreat (11/2 to 11/6) of "Balance" with 5 Point Yoga and Balance Owners, Amy & Jesse leading you through yoga, fitness, meditation, trail running and more! Malibu will have a prerequisite 10 week training program.

Join us as Amy Carolla, owner of Philadelphia based Balance Chestnut Hill teams up with Ted McDonald, owner of Malibu based 5 Point Yoga for an unforgettable weekend full of fitness, hiking, yoga, the running of the Malibu Half Marathon (or 5k), laughing, inspiration and more!

Malibu is known as one of the birthplaces of surfing. But we’re runners and we’ll be letting people surf as we run up and down trails, across the beach and finally across that finish line of the Malibu Half Marathon. Every day, you will lace up your shoes and hike or run in and around the thousands of acres that surround Malibu. When you’re not hiking, you’ll be practicing your best yoga pose as Ted leads you through a practice at our luxuriously serene and beautiful Malibu studio.

You will check in on Thursday November 2nd, 2017. Amy will be leading a fitness class at an undisclosed location (it’s totally top secret!), after which we will enjoy a welcome dinner, introductions, and set the plan for the weekend. You’ll start your first full day on Friday November 3rd with an hour long heart opening yoga practice led by Ted. All poses can be modified to account for your skill level, so beginners and advanced practitioners will all find something in this class.

Following your practice, you will feast on a heart-healthy, farm-to-table breakfast prepared by Lauren and then head out for our morning activities.

Following that everyone will come back together for a deliciously nutritious lunch.

The day will end with a good shower (you’re going to need it), some down time (perhaps a walk on the beach?) and a deliciously relaxing yin yoga practice. Once you’re totally blissed out and utterly spent, we will all sit down under the stars and twinkle lights, noshing on a meal of fresh ingredients, while we discuss love, life, goals, dreams, sugar, spice and everything nice.

The day will end with a good shower. Saturday will be a repeat of Friday. Sunday is the Malibu Half Marathon and 5k. The race is not a requirement to participate in the retreat, but we know many folks will be, so that is our focus for Sunday. We’ll also be but not before getting in a morning yoga class and a final healthy breakfast. And ok, maybe a nice walk on the beach!

The retreat does not include accommodations, though we have secured a block of rooms at the newly remodeled Native Hotel. Other options in Malibu include the Malibu Beach Inn. There are also hotels in Westlake Village, including the Hyatt, the Four Seasons, and the Westlake Village Inn. If you are not staying at the Native, you will need a car rental as we will be starting all activities from this location. Please let us know which hotel you have booked with so that we know when to expect you.
